The Hornpipe is any of several dance forms that were
popular in the British isles. The dances first appeared
in the late 17th century, and are still danced to this
day.
Henry Purcell lived from 1659-1695. He was a
quintessentially English composer, and was an expert on
the harpsichord and organ.
