Composed in 2014 they offer sonic portraits of four figures from history, Caterina Riario Sforza de Medici and Niccolò Paganini both of the Italian Renaissance, and Count Belisarius and Empress Theodora of 6th-century Constantinople. They offer various challenges for students, including technical (unusual scales, parallel fourths, rapid shifts on the keyboard), reading (odd meters and ranges) and interpretive (expressive shifts in tempo and unique pedal effects). Includes a brief description by the composer of her inspiration and intent in writing the pieces. (The audio example is of the fourth piece: Hagia Sophia - Empress Theodora.) 10 pp. .
