The included biography and background of the work are very helpful and the music itself is a wonderful example of Bauer's art, a lifelong blending of musical influences studied at home and abroad. This "new" two-movement duo for flute and piano is well worthy of rediscovery and should occupy an important place in American music of the mid-20th century.
