Veltījums. Richard Strauss. Piano Solo notis. Intermediate.

Oriģināls

Zueignung composed by Richard Strauss. 1864-1949. Arranged by David Pentecost. For Piano Solo. Romantic Period. Intermediate. Sheet Music Single. Published by David J. Pentecost. S0.41883. This is one of Strauss’ most beautiful short songs. I heard Kiri Te Kanawa’s recording of it, and being unable to find a solo piano version, I had to write a version for piano solo, basing it closely on Strauss’ own piano accompaniment, but modifying it to allow the ‘voice line’ to dominate. Most of the sung recordings are taken at a pace between about 70 and 90 crotchets per minute. I find that a pace near the low end of this range works well for piano solo. Herrmann von Gilm's German lyrics have been retained, in order to help the pianist recognise the main melody, although this objective has also been met by adding accent marks above the notes which were sung in the original version.
